Perfluorinated substances may be carcinogenic and endocrine disruptors. These substances do not belong in food packaging and should be totally banned, says Randi Flesland on Forbrukerrådet. The Substances occurring in 4 of 6 packs investigated. Two of them are listed as chemicals which pose a serious threat to health and environment.
In early summer ,Coop in Denmark put an end to selling microwave popcorn because of the toxic substances in the packaging, but in Sweden they are still sold in most supermarkets.
There are no studies showing that one gets sick from eating microwave popcorn, not in terms of perfluorinated substances, said Emma Halldin Ankarberg, a toxicologist at the Livsmedelsverket(National Food Agency) to TT at an earlier alarm.
