A local journalist, Sorin Bogdan, told the BBC that the club is in a converted factory with only two small exits. At first it was just one of the doors to open. A witness tells the Romanian state news agency that the guests had to break open the locked door to get out.

The injured were distributed at ten different hospitals in the Romanian capital.
Several ambulances and fire trucks were sent to the scene. Romanian television showed pictures of police officers and ambulance personnel trying to revive the injured lying on the ground.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis expressed on this great sorrow over the incident. "This is a sad day for all of us, for our nation and for me personally," he wrote.
