Russia continues occupation and we do whatever we can - Bidzina Ivanishvili

According to ex-Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, if the previous government was reasonable enough, it would have prevented the 2008 war and at least maintain the situation that existed before Shevardnadze, when Russians had been performing the role of peacekeepers.

As Ivanishvili told journalists, we should have good neighborly relations with all neighbors, but not at the expense of our territories. To a question of whether the Georgian Dream got results from the dialogue with Russia, he replied by saying: "not much".

"However, the launch of trade and the dialogue on various issues are the basis for solution of major issues, unlike the hysterics, the cold war and then the hot war launched by the National Movement. Their position was unjustified even before the launch of the global war. It was not right.

We should correctly evaluate our capabilities and should take care of our country. Extra activities and excessive energy may lead to the same things that took place in 2008. I think that if the previous government was reasonable enough, we would have prevented everything.

Today I have the same pretension. They again try to continue the same and drag the country into a new disaster. We must be consistent with the international community in order to get assistance from them. Then we must wait for due time and we will necessarily restore our territorial integrity; we will get back our brothers - Abkhazians and Ossetians", - he said.

“They had illusions. If not so, we would have prevented the 2008 war and at least maintain the situation that existed before Shevardnadze, when Russians had been performing the role of peacekeepers.

Unfortunately, Russia continues occupation and we do whatever we can. As soon as we do things they we cannot do, we will get a new disaster”, said Ivanishvili and added that we must wait for the change of situation in the global politics.
