Maximum sentence for Briton found guilty of murdering and burying partner of 3 decades

British expat Nigel Jackson ,60 was found guilty of murdering his long-term partner Brenda Davidson, 72, by burying her body in the garden of their villa on the outskirt of Portimao, Algarve.
He was found guilty collectively by  three female judges out of all five charges of which he had been accused by the public prosecutor; murder, desecration of a body, larceny, IT and telecommunications fraud and two counts of misuse of a credit card.


Portugal among nations with biggest gold reserves Says WGC

The annual accounts declared by the World Gold Council, released every January, show Portugal has more gold than wealthier nations such as the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Spain.
Current reserves in the country are calculated at 383 tonnes, which is estimated at  12.1 billion euros in current market prices of the precious commodity.

The University of Helsinki announced its plans to introduce annual tuition fees for new students outside thé  EU and the European Economic Area. The fees could reach as high as  €25,000  and will come into force from August next year.


Masked men mob beat refugees Children at Stockholm Station

Police disclosed a number of 50 - 100 masked people dressed in black clothing gathered in central Stockholm last night with the intent of attacking minors with a migrant background and encouraging People to do the same.

Sweden plans to set  an age limit as high as 16 on unsupervised access to social media sites like Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram etc, as new EU rules are to be enacted Into national legislation.

    Thé Police disclosed on Friday at a Press Conference thé Crime Statistics for 2015.

    The total number of rapes reported last year reached over 1,000 cases , Thé police stated. Out of 1000 cases , foreign nationals were suspects in 217 cases and asylum seekers in 25.

    Sweden plans to deport up to 80,000 failed asylum seekers and migrants

    Sweden plans to deport up to 80,000 refugees and migrants arrived in 2015 and whose applications for asylum have been rejected meaning they will be returned either to their home countries or to the European country responsible under EU rules. 

    Remains of massacred Turkish Cypriots discovered

    The remains of 86 Turkish Cypriot civilians buried in a mass grave at the village of Sandallar or Santalaris in Famagusta have been dug up. The victims were from the Turkish Cypriot villages of Santalaris, Murataga, and Atilar,in Close proximity to each other in the Famagusta district. Thé number of People killed were 126 .

    The average price of sold apartments in Sofia increased in the fourth quarter of 2015, exceeding €800 per square meter for the first time since 2011, the Bulgarian Properties company announced.

    Denmark is World's least corrupt country

    The Nordic countries led by Denmark and Finland are the world's least corrupt, according to a latest survey done by the NGO Transparency International .
    The Corruption Perceptions Index 2015, released on Wednesday, weighs graft in 168 countries. This year Finland ranks just behind Denmark as the world's second-leastcorrupt.

    Finland: Expectant mothers should avoid liquorice, salmiakki

    The National Institute for Health and Welfare, THL, says that pregnant women should be even more cautious than before about their consumption of liquorice and the salty liquorice treat salmiakki. Excessive consumption of the black sweets during pregnancy could result in lower levels of intelligence and concentration difficulties in newborn children.

    Little fluctuations for the Athens Stock Exchange

    Genera price index down by 0.34% and standing at 544.38 points - Ten-year bond yield at 9.83%
    The Athens Stock Exchange has opened with minor fluctuations on Wednesday morning, with the general price index retreating by 0.34% at 13:49 and standing at 544.38 points.
    Transactions so far have been valued at 22.38 million euros, while the yield of the ten-year government bond is currently at 9.83%.

    Two Turkish journalists face life imprisonment over weapons truck story

    An indictment against Turkish journalists Can Dündar and Erdem Gül for highlighting weapons transfers by the country’s intelligence agency has been completed by the case’s prosecutor, with the daily Cumhuriyet reporters facing life in prison. 
                                                         

    First Danish Case with the Zika virus confirmed

    A Danish tourist has contracted the Zika virus, confirms Lars Østergaard, a  consultant and professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases at Aarhus University Hospital. It is believed to be the country’s first ever case.

    There is currently an outbreak of the Zika virus in South and Central America, and the Danish patient only recently returned from travels in the region.

    Swedish Gov looks for legal ways for asylum seekers to enter EU

    Green Party member Maria Ferm is set to investigate the matter, reports Swedish Radio News. The government will make a decision regarding her inquiry Thursday. The proposal would be the result of an agreement last fall between the minority government and the opposition, center-right parties.

    Swedish Radio news reports that the police want between 1,500 and 2,500 more officers and 1,600 new civilian employees by the year 2020. The National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson says some police services will suffer if they do not receive those reinforcements.
