Maximum sentence for Briton found guilty of murdering and burying partner of 3 decades

British expat Nigel Jackson ,60 was found guilty of murdering his long-term partner Brenda Davidson, 72, by burying her body in the garden of their villa on the outskirt of Portimao, Algarve.
He was found guilty collectively by  three female judges out of all five charges of which he had been accused by the public prosecutor; murder, desecration of a body, larceny, IT and telecommunications fraud and two counts of misuse of a credit card.

In a 30-minute ruling Jackson was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the presiding judge, the maximum term that can be handed out in Portugal.

Shaking his head as he was handcuffed and led off by police officers, Jackson expressed his disagreement with the sentence.

Stating it had been proven that Jackson killed his partner of nearly three decades with blows and slashes to the head, face and throat before wrapping her body in plastic and burying it under rubble “to hide it”, the presiding judge said he had also cleaned up any traces of blood behind him.

Reading the verdict the Presiding  judge added that Jackson had deliberately covered Ms. Davidson’s absence and appropriated himself of items belonging to her and her children, including her jewelleries.

The reading was attended by Brenda Davidson’s four children.

Speaking after the verdict Brenda Davidson’s son Dean, 49, said “It won’t bring my mum back, but justice has been served.”
