24 percent of Poles die from Cancer

“In the European Union (EU), cancer was the cause of death for Close to 1.3 million persons in 2013, responsible for just over a quarter (26 percent) of all deaths. Men had 726,500 deaths due to cancer were more affected than women with 570,300 Deaths,” the EU statistics office, Eurostat, said in a recent report.


Eurostat said that fatal cancer “represented more than a third (37 percent) of all deaths for the EU population aged less than 65, while this level was below a quarter (23 percent) for the older population (those aged 65 years and over)”.
In Poland, cancer was a cause of death in 24 percent of the cases in 2013, the latest available data.
The lowest cancer death rate in the EU was recorded in Bulgaria with 17 percent,while the highest rate was recorded in Slovenia at 32 percent, the Netherlands (31 percent in 2012) and Ireland 30 percent.
